There were 11 traffic violence-related fatalities in the city of Durango between 2018-2023. We saw a total of three deaths in 2023 alone. Two were pedestrians and one was a cyclist. As of November, one more pedestrian lost their life to traffic violence in Durango. This brings a total of 51 fatalities in La Plata County for the years of 2017 through 2022 (this includes the people of Durango)
Semi-recent new hire, Devin King, is working hard to make Durango streets safer for all users. He has worked closely with our family as well as many residents to build actionable plans to reduce traffic violence and rollback the car-centric travel status quo.
